Prof Talaat Ahmed, a research professor of plant science at Qatar University, holds a PhD degree in plant molecular biology and genetics from Yokohama City University, Japan. He joined QU in 2006, and in September 2014, was appointed as a Coordinator of Biological Sciences Program in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. As a Plant Molecular Geneticist, his current research interests include Genome mapping and QTL analysis, Molecular markers (RFLP, AFLP, RAPD, SSR, EST, CAPS and dCAPS). Along with a multidisciplinary research team, he managed to secure many research projects on a competitive basis with about 7.5 Million dollars including 5 NPRPs, 2 MME, one QSTP, TOTAL, many UREPs and others. Since the PhD graduation, Prof Ahmed has supervised several MSc and 4 PhD students. Prof Ahmed has published over 85 peer-reviewed papers and many conference abstracts; all of them have been published in international journals. He is a co-author for two book chapters published in Springer.
